A recipe for success!
Budding Delia Smiths and Jamie Olivers have raised hundreds of pounds for good causes by creating their own recipe book. S4 students at Earlston High School were given the task of producing the book as an enterprise challenge for ASDAN Silver. Their teacher, Anne Brown, said the project was a great achievement and required many weeks of hard work.
“We started by sending emails to staff and local producers asking for their favourite recipes,” she explained. “The response was amazing and after a massive typing, editing and collating job involving students and many staff we produced a fantastic recipe book. Since then the demand has been overwhelming!
“Students have been involved in marketing the book at various events in school and the local community. They made excellent Christmas presents! The ASDAN group decided that the proceeds should be divided between their two chosen charities: Borders General Hospital Children’s Ward and The Anthony Nolan Trust. Each charity was presented with a cheque for £500.
“We are indebted to Konica Minolta, Lyreco and McNaughton Supplies for absorbing the total costs of producing the recipe book allowing us to present these sustantial cheques to our charities.
“This challenge covers all the core elements of A Curriculum for Excellence. It has been an invaluable experience in teamwork, offering an insight into running a profitable, efficient and successful business. The students are incredibly proud to have raised over £1000 for local charities!”
