"The English Baccalaureate will be only one measure of performance, and should not be the limit of schools' ambitions for their pupils. Schools will retain the freedom to innovate and offer GCSEs, iGCSEs and other qualifications to best meet the needs of their pupils"
The Importance of Teaching White Paper 4.24

There has been some concern over the past few months regarding the status of qualifications that fall outside the traditional GCSE and A-Level boxes. The coalition has indeed focused attention on a core of five GCSE subjects.

However, it is also clear from the statement above that schools are still free to create a mix of GCSEs and other qualifications that best meet the needs of their learners. We welcome this.

Over 90,000 learners gained an ASDAN qualification in 2010. Over 200,000 learners every year benefit from an ASDAN curriculum. There is now compelling evidence to show that the ASDAN approach helps learners achieve more, through explicitly growing skills for learning, skills for employment and skills for life. When deployed as a supplement to  a GCSE or practical learning pathway, learners exceed expectations in other subjects.

ASDAN programmes and qualifications have been created by teachers for teachers. Please explore the website to learn more, or contact us by email or telephone. We are always happy to advise on and support the achievement and success of your learners.
