What are the FE Awards?

ASDAN's FE Awards (Level Up, Level 1, Level 2) provide a framework for the development, assessment and accreditation of personal and social skills through an activity-based curriculum in the context of FE provision, as a preparation for adult life.

Who are they for?

  • Designed for use in 14-19 school/college links programmes
  • FE Level Up/Level 1 can be used for post-14 in FE Colleges and units with students with learning difficulties
  • FE Level 2 can be used with those embarking on A levels, GNVQs or GCSE resits, and is ideal for training providers working with young adults

Structure

Students choose challenges from the 12 modules that make up the FE Awards:

  • Rights and Responsibilities
  • Health and Fitness
  • The Community
  • Independent Living
  • Vocational Study
  • Vocational Training
  • Recreation (Sport, Leisure and Recreation at Level 2)
  • Job Search
  • Information Technology (IT and Enterprise at Level 2)
  • Creative Activity (Expressive and Creative Arts at Level 2)
  • International Relations
  • Free Option (Beliefs and Ethics at Level 2)

Students complete the various challenges, gaining credits for each section finished. To achieve the FE Award, students need to complete 12 credits (six for FE Level Up), showing evidence of action planning, recording achievement and reviewing. Students must provide a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate the skills they have developed and to document all the activities they have completed.

Assessment

After students' portfolios have been internally moderated, centres must register candidates' names for external moderation at least four weeks before a regional moderation meeting. ASDAN will issue certificates following successful moderation.

Progression

These progressive awards can each lead on to the next level from FE Level Up to FE Level 2. Level Up also offers progression to Wider Key Skills at Level 1; FE Level 1 to Wider Key Skills or CoPE Level 1; and FE Level 2 to Wider Key Skills or CoPE Level 2.
