Gold Award
What are the ASDAN Awards?
ASDAN Award Programmes offer imaginative ways of developing, recording and certificating a wide range of young people’s personal qualities, abilities and achievements, as well as introducing them to new activities and challenges. All the programmes link to nationally recognised qualifications, which contribute to performance tables.
Who is the Gold Award for?
- Students in Years 10 & 11 progressing beyond the Silver Award
- Students in post-16 education, embarking on A Levels, GNVQs (advanced or intermediate) or GCSE resits
- Gifted and talented groups at KS3
Structure
Students select a number of challenges from the 12 modules that make up the Gold Award programme:
- Information Transmission
- The Community
- Sport and Leisure
- Independent Living
- Economic and Consumer Issues
- Handling Numbers
- Healthy Living
- Work Related Activities
- Science and Technology
- International Links
- Expressive Arts
- Beliefs and Ethics
Modules are divided into sections and students gain credits for each section completed. One credit represents about 10 hours of activity. To achieve the Gold Award, students must gain a minimum of 12 credits, showing evidence of action planning, recording of achievments and reviewing. Up to six credits can also be acquired from other ASDAN programmes, such as the Silver Award or Short Courses.
Students need to demonstrate competence in the Wider Key Skills at Level 2 (Working with Others, Improving Own Learning and Problem Solving) and must provide a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate awareness of all of the activities they have undertaken.
Assessment
After students' portfolios have been internally moderated, centres must register candidates' names for external moderation at least four weeks before a regional moderation meeting. ASDAN will issue certificates following successful moderation.
Progression routes
The Gold Award counts as half of the curriculum credits required for ASDAN’s Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) at Level 2, which is worth 46 points in the achievement and attainment tables. Progression to the Wider Key Skills qualifications is also available.
Training
Details of forthcoming ASDAN Programmes introductory workshops are listed in the Training & Events section.
