CoPE Through...

CoPE has been designed as a flexible qualification and it can also be delivered with a particular curriculum focus or context. The curriculum areas agreed by QCA are:

  • CoPE through Citizenship
  • CoPE through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)
  • CoPE through International Communications/Enterprise
  • CoPE through Personal Finance
  • CoPE through Environmental Management and Monitoring
  • CoPE through Sports and Fitness
  • CoPE through Creative and Performing Arts
  • CoPE through ICT
  • CoPE through Numeracy and Literacy
  • CoPE through Beliefs and Values
  • CoPE through RSA Opening Minds
  • CoPE through Co-operative Studies

Centres will be able to have the wording 'CoPE through...' on their certificates if they are able to show, at moderation, that candidates met all six CoPE Unit standards through one of these curriculum areas.

How to achieve CoPE through...

12 credits (approximately 120 guided learning hours) are required for the CoPE qualifications.

Where appropriate, for example CoPE through Personal Finance, centres will use a Short Course to provide assessment activities within the chosen curriculum context (6 credits). They must then complete a further 6 credits by choosing challenges from any of the modules (Sections B and C) from the CoPE Student Book.

If an appropriate Short Course is not available, candidates can complete Core Challenges from the CoPE Student Book and interpret other modules (and section C challenges) so that the activity is set within the relevant curriculum context.

At Level 1, the challenges are normally drawn from Sections A and B of the student books. At Level 2, a candidate must provide evidence of completing 12 credits of challenges, of which no fewer than six come from Sections B or C. The candidates will also need to demonstrate that they have met the standards for the six CoPE Skills Units at the relevant level.
