Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the South-West section of the ASDAN website!

I hope that this section will become a valuable resource in helping you deliver ASDAN programmes and qualifications; providing you with information, ideas and assistance along the way.

As you navigate this section of the ASDAN website, you will read a variety of accounts showing how ASDAN awards and qualification have benefited a wide range of learners from an equally wide range of centers. I am very keen that we continually recognise the achievement of our learners and celebrate their success, so please forward your good news stories to Jan Miller for inclusion. Photographs are most welcome.

I wish you every success in delivering ASDAN programmes and qualifications.

We hope you have a good term ahead.

Best wishes

Martin Lane

South-West Celebration Event

In April, the Clifton Pavilion at Bristol Zoo was transformed by more than 100 ASDAN students and teachers from all over the South West who came together to celebrate their achievements and successes in their ASDAN work.

The occasion got off to an energetic start as Fuse, a local dance troupe, entertained the audience with their enthusiastic routines. No one could help being amazed by their skills.  During lunch Fuse held an impromptu workshop for the students – although it was mainly the teachers who showed everyone their talent!

A dozen centres, representing all areas of ASDAN’s curriculum, presented their efforts in fun and creative ways. One of the many highlights was a film from Fiveways School in Somerset called Not the Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

The model car built by Oxfordshire Adult Learning Centre was also very impressive. The Learning Centre are old hands at presenting, having had their work displayed in an art gallery already.

Between the presentations the audience was entertained by Toby Thompson, a local street poet.

Teresa Griggs of Trafalgar School in Downton, Wiltshire, said: “ASDAN is inspirational, it is great to see young people succeed.”

ASDAN area co-ordinator Jan Miller added: “The day was a huge success and a real credit to the students and teachers of the South West.”

Practitioner's Award Success

Nicola Turner

Congratulations to Nicola Turner for completing her Practitioner’s Award!

Nicola, from Oldfield School in Bath, has been teaching CoPE since 2006. She has built an excellent portfolio demonstrating attendance at support and standardisation meetings, further professional development through CoPE AAIMs 1 and AAIMs 2 training and successful moderations with excellent feedback reports.

For her final hurdle she presented a case study to a group of fellow CoPE practitioners at a recent support meeting. Nicola was presented with her Practitioner’s Award certificate and plaque by the National Manager for the South West region, Martin Lane. Well done again Nicola.
