Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to ASDAN Cymru and the web pages for ASDAN centres in Wales. We aim to ensure that these pages reflect the work that ASDAN Cymru is involved in and provide Welsh centres with information about developments and events taking place across the region.

ASDAN courses are suitable for students in a wide range of settings; they address the needs of individuals with learning difficulties, provide informal education options, offer literacy and numeracy resources and a range of qualifications which are recognised by DCELLS. The number of centres in Wales offering ASDAN awards, programmes and qualifications continues to grow. The centres include mainstream schools in all sectors, special schools, Further Education colleges, training providers and voluntary sector organizations, offering independent living and personal development programmes.

Most notably, the number of students involved in the CoPE qualification across Wales has significantly increased over the past three years. Cluster meetings have been set up to support practitioners and students in North, South and West Wales. Information about moderation arrangements for qualifications and support and standardisation events for CoPE centres for the current academic year can be found in the secure area of the website (for registered centre).

The Regional Team were delighted with the success of our centres in all awards and qualifications moderated in the academic year 2010 to 2011. We saw many examples of excellent practice - well done for all your hard work.

Please browse this site for details of the full range of programmes available, including both awards and qualifications. Local staff work across the region and would be happy to discuss the needs of individual organisations and students with existing and prospective practitioners.

Regional staff have sample portfolios for most course programmes, so that trainers and teachers can see the standard of work, we can also explain what is available and discuss the practicalities of implementing new courses. INSET training can also be arranged. Details of all the workshops to be held across Wales this term can be found below. If you are interested in any of these courses, please book online.
