ASDAN's Response to the Recent Green Paper: 'Support and Aspiration:
A New Approach to Special Educational Needs and Disability'
ASDAN welcomes the recent Green Paper, 'Support and Aspiration: A New Approach to Special Educational Needs and Disability', published by the Department for Education on March 9 2011, and its focus on redressing the disproportionately poor life chances of the two-million young people in England who have been identified as having Special Educational Needs. Education providers will be pivotal in ensuring every young person is provided with opportunities to have their aspirations and hopes met.
The development needs of young people are at the heart of ASDAN’s work. Over the past 30 years, we have developed a unique range of curriculum programmes and qualifications, which provide meaningful, realistic life skills learning experiences, differentiated and therefore accessible to all learners across the SEND spectrum. ASDAN’s Preparatory programmes and Entry 1 Personal Progress, developed specifically to meet the needs of learners who are functioning below National Curriculum Level 1/Entry 1, are used in more than 1000 centres across the UK.
ASDAN programmes and qualifications have been developed in consultation with a network of teaching professionals to ensure that they are fit for purpose. ASDAN looks forward to continuing its work with education practitioners, following the consultation period, to ensure that every child and young person has the opportunity to fulfil his or her potential.
