St John Ambulance and Wider Key Skills

Teach first aid and help your learners gain qualifications

ASDAN has been working with St John Ambulance since 2008, promoting life-saving skills and personal development skills to encourage more teachers to train their pupils in first aid and gain evidence towards achieving the Wider Key Skill qualification Improving own Learning and Performance (IOLP) and supporting the completion of the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness at Levels 1 and 2. Both qualifications carry GCSE equivalence. Download the flyer for more information.

ASDAN now have trained staff that can advise on how to use St John Ambulance Young First Aider alongside your curriculum. They can also provide bespoke training to equip staff to deliver first-aid training and help learners achieve ASDAN qualifications in the process.

Training

Training will enable trainers to assess and internally moderate the Wider Key Skill qualification Improving own Learning and Performance.

Please note that this session is not a first aid qualification and it is strongly recommended that you have some basic first aid knowledge, before teaching pupils. If first aid training is required you should contact St John Ambulance directly.

Training can include:

  • Information on how to use first aider pack to teach skills. This will include lesson plans, scenario cards, power points, DVD clips, certificates and much more.
  • How the evidence from Yfa can be used towards achieving ASDAN qualifications, such as Wider Key Skill qualification Improve own Learning and Performance.
  • Examples how the Wider Key Skill qualification at Levels 1 and 2 has been achieved through the Yfa.
