ASDAN Award Programmes offer imaginative ways of developing, recording and certificating a wide range of young people’s personal qualities, abilities and achievements, as well as introducing them to new activities and challenges. All the programmes link to nationally recognised qualifications, which contribute to performance tables.
Students select a number of challenges from the 12 modules that make up the Gold Award programme:
Modules are divided into sections and students gain credits for each section completed. One credit represents about 10 hours of activity. To achieve the Gold Award, students must gain a minimum of 12 credits, showing evidence of action planning, recording of achievments and reviewing. Credits can also be acquired from other ASDAN programmes, such as the Silver Award or Short Courses.
Students need to demonstrate competence in the Wider Key Skills at Level 2 (Working with Others, Improving Own Learning and Problem Solving) and must provide a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate awareness of all of the activities they have undertaken.
After students' portfolios have been internally moderated, centres must register candidates names for external moderation at least four weeks in advance of a regional moderation meeting. ASDAN will issue certificates following successful moderation.
The Gold Award counts as half of the curriculum credits (six) required for ASDAN’s Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) at Level 2, which is worth 46 points in the achievement and attainment tables. Progression to the Wider Key Skills qualifications is also available.
