CoPE and AoPE moderation to be undertaken by post

In response to feedback from customers, while at the same time continuing to ensure the quality of our qualifications, moderation for the Certificate and Award of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE/AoPE) will be undertaken by post from 1 October 2017.

This means staff from CoPE centres will no longer have to attend moderation meetings, saving them time and travel expenses. Moderation windows for CoPE/AoPE will be retained, with the summer moderation window being extended to four weeks. Centres will be able to request moderation for CoPE/AoPE through the members area of the ASDAN website.

The change to moderation brings CoPE/AoPE in line with ASDAN's other qualifications where moderation is done by post. Full details on the new CoPE/AoPE moderation process will be provided to registered centres in September. Centres registered for CoPE and AoPE can contact their ASDAN regional representative if they have any questions.

CoPE is delivered to students in Years 10 and 11 and can also be undertaken by gifted and talented Key Stage 3 pupils as well as learners in post-16 education. It has a successful track record in enhancing personal and social development as well as fostering core skills including:

  • working with others
  • improving own learning and performance
  • problem solving
  • planning and carrying out research
  • communication

CoPE has been shown to improve GCSE performance in English and maths as well as developing employability skills in young people.

Please visit the CoPE web page to find out more about delivering this qualification and to read case studies showing its positive impact on learners.
