Focus On IT Opportunities

    As of this term, eAssessment is available through ASDAN's eLearning platform ASDANonline.

    Using this system, students can complete online tests for Key Skills and Basic Skills/Adult Literacy and Numeracy (ALAN) and get immediate feedback.

Environment Education

Eco-Schools and ASDAN have been working in partnership to develop programmes that enable young people to achieve formal individual accreditation for their activities in managing and monitoring community environments, through their involvement in Eco-Schools or other environmental initiatives. More information is available on the Eco-Schools website.

We are pleased to announce the introduction of two new programmes:

  • Environmental Award: a short course aimed mainly at young people 11-19 years - click here for details

Qualifications News

    New Qualification: Certificate of Personal and Social Development (PSD)

    ASDAN is pleased to announce that this exciting new GCSE-equivalent qualification will be available to centres from September 2008. Visit the PSD page for further details.

    New Qualification: Employability Levels 2 and 3

    These new qualifications are now available and build on the Entry 3 and Level 1 qualifications. An Entry 2 Employability Qualification should be available soon. Email steveharper@asdan.org.uk for details.

    New Qualification: Community Volunteering Level 3

    This new qualification has just been approved and is now available. Email steveharper@asdan.org.uk for details.

    Diploma and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) Developments

    ASDAN is a Component Awarding Body for the Diploma: "an exciting new 14-19 qualification that will bring an innovative approach to learning." (QCA website)

    CoPE through Personal Finance

Publications News

    New Employability Book

    This new student book contains activity-based teaching and learning activites designed to develop employability skills. It can provide short course award accreditation and prepare students for ASDAN Employability qualifications. It can also be purchased by organisations that wish to develop employability skills without registering for ASDAN qualifications or awards.

    Short Courses

    Recent Short Course Award updates have seen the highly successful Foundation for Work Award reborn as the Experience of Work Award and Key Decisions in PSHE replaced by the PSHE Award.

    The Personal Finance and Sports & Fitness Short Course Awards have also been fully updated to accommodate recent developments in these areas.

    Key Skills Update

    Statement from the Quality Improvement Agency regarding future support arrangements for Key Skills:

    Although the Key Skill Support Programme (KSSP) comes to an end on the 31st March 2008. The main Key Skills qualifications will remain available until at least 2010 (with final accreditation in 2012), at which point the new functional skills qualifications will take their place.

    The Wider Key Skills qualifications will remain available until at least 2013, when the new entitlement to Diplomas incorporating Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) comes into force.


Latest Projects and Partnerships

    ASDAN Functional Skills Pilot 2007-10

    ASDAN has been invited to pilot Functional Skills over a three-year period, from 2007. Information is available here. Sample assessments are now available in the Functional Skills Secure area.

    ASDAN Aimhigher National Project

    This two-year project, funded nationally by the Higher Education Funding council (HEFCE), aims to raise attainment and potential progression and entry to HE by helping to develop more independent, autonomous learners in schools using COPE as the central project instrument. This was done by providing curriculum delivery support to centres in association with HE admissions officers and students. Click here to download the January 2008 update.
