CIVA student bookCommunity Involvement and Volunteering

CIVA accredits up to 60 hours of Community Involvement and Volunteering activity. Divided into six Modules - Starting Out; Planning and Preparation; Taking Part; Meetings; Issues and Needs; Personal Development - it is relevant for all people engaged in voluntary activity within their own community, school, college or youth centre.

Offering a flexible, multi-level programme aimed primarily at 13-19 year olds, this Short Course provides a certificate of achievement and progression into nationally recognised Programmes and Qualifications.

How to achieve the Short Course

Students present a portfolio of their activities. This portfolio will contain:

  • evidence of 'challenges' completed
  • planning and reviewing documents
  • completed record of progress
  • summary of achievement identifying skills development

After successful moderation, centres submit a list of candidates' names via the secure area of the website and certificates are issued by ASDAN.

How does the short course fit into the UK Qualifications framework?

Credits from the programme can count as up to half of the curriculum requirements of the ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE), which has GCSE equivalence at Levels 1 and 2, and is worth an AS Level at Level 3.

It is also possible to undertake CIVA to collect evidence towards the ASDAN Certificate of Community Volunteering.
