Football. To me it’s just 22 men chasing a ball around a pitch for 90 minutes! Following football has passed me by…
I am, however, acutely aware of how the football season is ‘hotting up’ by listening to the discussions that take place over coffee in the ASDAN kitchen. It brings passion, loyalty and heated debate to this normally calm environment from seasoned football fans, each with their own loyalties.
I’m not completely averse to the love of sport and regularly swap my business attire for a chance to get on court and indulge my passion for netball. Being the captain of a team that is currently enjoying the luxury of some truly outstanding wins each Saturday, I see how a love of sport can bring out passion, build connections and reach people in a way nothing else can.
This week, Watford Football Club Community Sports and Education Trust has started to trial a forthcoming development from ASDAN – an online Short Course platform. They will be working with their learners to complete the Football Short Course, recording all their challenge evidence using this interactive system. The portal will allow them to save their evidence (photos, videos, Word documents, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations) directly on to the system. This is an exciting development for the recording of evidence and will provide a new way of completing ASDAN’s Short Courses.
So this weekend while some colleagues will be relaxing with their feet up in front of the TV watching the match, some standing on the sidelines, some donning their kit, some joining fellow fans in the stand, I will be joining my team-mates on court to work together for another win.
No doubt Monday morning will (briefly) be spent congratulating or commiserating colleagues, depending on how their team has fared.
And if I get a little bit of spare time over the weekend, I think I will take some inspiration from the new FoodWise Short Course and brush up my skills in baking a cake suitable for a celebration!
