Booking your moderation for programmes

Booking your moderation for programmes

Postal moderation is available for summer 2022 for Personal Development Programmes (Bronze, Silver, Gold) and Preparing for Adulthood programmes (New Horizons, Towards Independence, Transition Challenge, Workright).

There are three opportunities available this term and they will take place on the following dates:

9 May 2022

  • Learner details must be registered by Monday 11 April
  • Sample portfolios must be posted by Friday 29 April

6 June 2022

  • Learner details must be registered by Monday 9 May
  • Sample portfolios must be posted by Friday 27 May

4 July 2022

  • Learner details must be registered by Monday 6 June
  • Sample portfolios must be posted by Friday 1 July

ASDAN will email centres two weeks before the moderation date to specify which portfolios you are required to post to us for external moderation, along with details of where to post them.

Step 1: Ensure your learners are registered on new website

To book moderation, all learners must be registered on ASDAN's new website. This is done in the teaching area of the website by creating a new cohort.

Watch our video tutorial for creating a new cohort:

If you purchased the materials required for the course before 13 August 2021 (on our previous website), you will still need to register your learners on the new website. In this instance, please go through the process of registering learners on the new website but instead leave the quantities on the products page as 0.

We will check your balance at the point of certification as we do now, and if there aren’t enough valid books in hand, we’ll invoice at that point. If you would like to check your balance of programmes learner registrations, please email programmes@asdan.org.uk

Step 2: Book your chosen postal moderation date

  1. Find your cohort on the Teaching page, click 'View cohort', then 'Book moderation'
  2. Select your chosen moderation date
  3. Click 'Book'

Your booking is now complete.

Step 3: Add learners to your postal moderation

Once your chosen moderation date has been booked, you will need to add your learners to the moderation. Learner details and units must be entered by the dates specified at the top of this page.

  1. Click on view cohort, then ‘Update learner units’ within the Learners section
  2. Add the units your learners are being entered for
  3. Click 'Save changes' and then 'Back to course'
  4. Under Booked moderations, click 'Assign learners' next to your chosen moderation date
  5. Check the learners you wish to enter for moderation are selected. If there are learners within the cohort that you do not wish to enter for moderation, ensure they are unselected
  6. Tick to confirm that internal assessment and moderation have taken place
  7. Click 'Save'

If you would like to enter multiple cohorts for moderation at the same time:

  1. Choose one cohort and follow the steps above to book the moderation
  2. Click view cohort for the additional cohort(s) to be included in the moderation
  3. Under Booked moderations, click ‘Add cohort to moderation’ next to your chosen moderation date
  4. Click 'Confirm'
  5. Click 'Assign learners'
  6. Check the learners you wish to enter for moderation are selected. If there are learners within the cohort that you do not wish to enter for moderation, ensure they are unselected
  7. Tick to confirm that internal assessment and moderation have taken place
  8. Click 'Save'

All learners linked to a moderation should have their units confirmed and assigned only after all units have been internally assessed and internally moderated.

Once the deadline date has passed, we will email you to confirm which portfolios we require you to post to your ASDAN regional relationship manager for external moderation. We will provide you with an address where you can send the sample portfolios at this stage.

Summer 2022 requirements

Certification for summer 2022 will be based on learners meeting the full requirements for the programme.

However, centres that have experienced significant disruption to teaching due to Covid-19 can request a special consideration. This will allow learners' work to be certificated, even if all programme requirements have not been met. Special consideration can apply to whole cohorts or specific learners.

Please read the special consideration guidance to check the requirements and process.

Download special consideration versions of moderation checklists.
