Employability Fund Scotland

Developed by Skills Development Scotland, the Employability Fund aims to support activity that will help people develop the skills needed to secure a job or progress to more advanced forms of training. Argyll Training is one of many centres using ASDAN’s Employability Qualification (SCQF level S2-6) to accredit those on the Employability Fund programme. Kate Shanks explains how they use the qualification:

“At Argyll Training, we offer the ASDAN Employability Qualification at Entry 3 to Stage 2 of the Employability Fund programme. Our trainees are all between 16 and 17 years old, have left school and are unemployed. The Employability Qualification builds their knowledge of the working world and helps them take a step on their career ladder with a qualification. We have chosen to use ASDAN across our four satellite centres because it complements the training we offer. We have had lots of help from Heather and her team at ASDAN.

“Nathan came through from school and started on the ASDAN Employability Qualification last summer. When he joined us, he was very quiet and not sure what work he would like to do, or in fact what work would be available to him.

“Working on the qualification helped him plan his future and he secured placement at Fyne Futures Recycling Centre where he learned to work in a team and gained confidence and employment skills. His employer commented, “Nathan has been an asset to our business and has grown in confidence. He is a good worker and very reliable. If we could always get a Nathan that would be a bonus.

“Nathan now hopes to get a permanent job at the recycling centre.”
