Engage learners with our Mathematics Short Course

Published

ASDAN's Mathematics Short Course offers an activity-based curriculum to develop mathematical skills and prepare learners for GCSEs or Functional Skills assessments.

The programme is one in a series of popular and flexible ASDAN Short Courses and has recently been updated to take into account anticipated changes to the National Curriculum and to Mathematics GCSE content.

This new version has been written in association with subject experts from MEI (Mathematics in Education and Industry) and is designed to:

  • Support learners who have yet to achieve Grade A-C in Mathematics
  • Be delivered within GCSE learning programmes, providing a more motivating, activity-based experience
  • Offer an alternative, more practical approach, which further motivates students through the development and recognition of skills and through ASDAN Short Course certification
  • Provide opportunities to develop mathematical skills in relevant vocational contexts

The course comprises a series of challenges grouped into six modules covering topics such as Probability and Statistics, Money, Algebra and Mathematical Discovery.

Students can complete the course over a time period to suit them, and accreditation is available for between 10 and 60 hours' study.

sample copy of the student book is available to download. A set of accompanying Mathematics Short Course tutor notes has been produced with challenge-by-challenge advice, lesson ideas and suggested resources. This is free for registered ASDAN centres to download from members.asdan.org.uk/my-courses/short-courses
