ASDAN courses highlighted in DfE alternative provision review

ASDAN welcomes the announcement by the Department for Education which recognises the hugely important role of PSHE and Citizenship in young people's development into successful adults – despite these curriculum areas often having a lower profile than academic subjects.

The announcement of the Character Awards will help school leaders who have maintained their focus on a broad and balanced curriculum. The report includes several examples of how ASDAN programmes and qualifications engage learners and foster resilience alongside improved academic performance. See: the continuing impact of CoPE.

ASDAN programmes and qualifications are also highlighted as good practice in providing formal recognition for young people’s achievements in a DfE review of Military Ethos Alternative Provision review: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/military-ethos-alternative-provision-projects-review. The study found that these programmes had a positive impact on pupil behaviour, attendance and inter-personal skills.
