Schools to showcase how ASDAN courses boost learners' confidence
ASDAN will work with educators in our registered centres to co-present two workshops at the SSAT national conference.
More than 800 delegates are expected to attend the annual event at the ICC in Birmingham from December 5-6.
Boosting progression and confidence
In one of the workshops, Alison McCulloch, Assistant Principal at Hockerill Anglo-European College, Hertfordshire, will discuss how ASDAN’s Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) qualification provides an effective complement to GCSE that boosts learners’ progression and confidence.
Available at Levels 1, 2 and 3, CoPE helps students develop essential core skills for life and work including teamwork, independent learning and problem solving, as well as boosting confidence and self-esteem.
Developing better understanding of learners
In the second workshop, Emma Gilbert, Head of Core Studies, Sawtry Village Academy, Cambridgeshire, will describe how Lift Off, ASDAN’s primary to secondary school transition programme, enables educators to gain a better knowledge of their students and the support they need to successfully integrate into Year 7.
Lift Off helps learners to develop characteristics and qualities that are important for a successful transition, including resilience, determination, communication skills and collaboration.
Martina Veale, ASDAN Education Director, said: “We are thrilled to be the workshop sponsor of one of the biggest education events of the year.
“We are really looking forward to speaking to delegates to find more about the issues they are facing and the needs of their learners. If you are attending, we’d love to see you at one of our workshops where you’ll be able to learn more about the impact of ASDAN’s courses and ask questions on the important topics we’ll be discussing. Workshop spaces are available on a first come, first served basis so make sure you don’t miss out.
“Please also visit our F6 stand to try our ASDAN cupcakes and speak to one of our friendly staff.”

At a critical point in young people’s development, how can teachers get to know new students well and support them to integrate into life at secondary school?

This workshop will describe how the course has been a ‘big hit’ with learners who are developing the personal skills and characteristics needed to thrive in year 7 and beyond.
