About this course

What are the Preparing for Adulthood programmes?

These courses have been developed for learners with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). 

This range of certificated programmes provides a real-life context to reward achievement and foster the personal, social and work-related abilities of all learners.

There are four Preparing for Adulthood programmes:

Progression

For those seeking a qualification outcome: New Horizons, Transition Challenge, Towards Independence and Workright can be used to support the delivery of the Entry 1 qualifications in Personal Progress.

There is also scope for progression through:

The New Horizons student book contains activities within a framework of five modules:

Towards Independence Starting out module and folder

The Starting out module is mandatory and helps recognise learners' achievements and identify learning targets. These targets can then be developed by working through a further Towards Independence modules.

This module is accompanied by a quality A4 ring binder containing one copy of the mandatory Starting out module. This folder can be used to form a summative record of the learner's completed Towards Independence modules; each module book has a loop-stitch so that they can be held in the ring binder.

Each learner will need their own copy of the module book.
