The learner can:

  • Identify tools needed for plaiting such as brushes, bands or thread
  • Groom and section the mane or tail appropriately
  • Explain why a calm, clean horse is important before plaiting
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area
  • Create a basic three-strand plait in a mane or tail section
  • Secure the plait without pulling hair tightly
  • Work from a safe position near the horse’s shoulder or side
  • Pause or stop if the horse shows signs of discomfort
