The learner can:
- Identify key physical and behavioural signs of good health (for example: alertness, appetite, clear eyes, healthy coat, normal movement, and steady breathing)
- Identify common signs of poor health (for example: dull coat, weight loss, coughing, limping, discharge, diarrhoea, or changes in behaviour)
- Explain how changes in health signs can indicate illness or stress in animals
- Carry out a routine health check on an animal, recording key indicators such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and general condition
- Use basic tools and techniques appropriately (for example: thermometer, weight scales, stopwatch, visual assessment)
- Record findings accurately using an agreed format (such as a health record sheet or digital log)
- Identify when results indicate a need for further action or veterinary support
