Assessment criteria
(What the learner need to demonstrate in order to meet the learning outcome)
The learner can:
- Explain how pasture quality affects animal health, nutrition, and welfare (for example: overgrazing leading to poor nutrition or laminitis risk; long grass leading to parasites)
- Identify at least three elements of good pasture management (for example: grazing rotation, harrowing, weed control, reseeding, and maintaining fencing and water supply)
- Describe how poor management can impact the environment (for example: soil erosion, water contamination, increased weeds)
- Assess the condition of a grazing area and identify areas needing improvement
- Develop a simple action plan for improving the pasture (for example: scheduling rotation, applying fertiliser, clearing weeds, repairing fencing, or cleaning troughs)
- Carry out selected maintenance or improvement tasks following the plan safely and efficiently
