The learner can:

  • Identify and explain at least four key features of an octopus (e.g. intelligence, camouflage, regeneration, ink defence)
  • Describe how an octopus adapts to its environment
  • Use correct scientific vocabulary such as predator, habitat, mollusc, camouflage and ecosystem


  • Explain at least two defence strategies used by octopuses
  • Describe how octopus intelligence helps survival
  • Take part in a problem-solving activity (e.g. “How would you escape a predator?” scenario)
  • Compare octopus problem-solving to human problem-solving
