The learner can:

  • Identify small animals and insects which should be encouraged into the garden
  • Find out about the benefits of having these creatures in the garden
  • Create a poster or display to show what they have found out
  • Research the correct food mix for the season for the birds that visit a garden space
  • Make a nutritious fat or seed cake to feed the birds in a garden space
  • Record the birds that are seen feeding from it
Research the plants and flowers which attract butterflies to a garden
  • Decide which flowers and plants would be suitable for a space
  • Draw a design for a border in a space, using labels to explain the plants and why they have been chosen
