The learner can:

  • Identify and select an appropriate area for a concreting task
  • Prepare the work area by removing obstacles and ensuring the surface is suitable
  • Measure the area and estimate the quantity of concrete required
  • Measure the area and estimate the quantity of concrete required
  • Protect surrounding surfaces and features that should not come into contact with concrete (e.g. drains, pathways, structures)
  • Identify the materials required to produce concrete.
  • Describe the purpose of sand, cement, aggregate and water within a concrete mix.
  • Select an appropriate concrete mix ratio for a given task
  • Measure materials accurately using appropriate equipment.
  • Mix concrete to achieve a suitable consistency for the intended task.
