ASDAN Champion Erin builds confidence through creativity and communication
At ASDAN, we are always proud to celebrate learners who grow in confidence, develop essential life skills and take meaningful steps towards their futures. Through our ASDAN Champions initiative, we highlight learners whose journeys show the impact of applied, skills-based learning.
Meet Erin, our latest ASDAN Champion
Our latest ASDAN Champion is Erin, a learner at Denefield School, who is currently completing CoPE Level 1 and Level 2.
As part of the Communication module, Erin took on a creative and engaging challenge that allowed her to develop her confidence, communication and planning skills in a meaningful, real-world context.

Bringing stories to life, learning through real world experiences
For Challenge 1 (Section B), Erin wrote and illustrated her own short story for a younger audience. She carefully planned her ideas and created a story that was both imaginative and engaging.
Erin then arranged to read her story aloud to a group of younger children. During the session, she demonstrated excellent communication skills, reading clearly and confidently while keeping her audience engaged throughout. Her positive interaction with the group, combined with her expressive storytelling, made the experience enjoyable for the children and a real success overall.
Developing confidence through project based learning
Through this experience, Erin developed a range of valuable skills that will support her in both education and everyday life. Writing and illustrating her story allowed her to express her ideas creatively; while reading it aloud helped her build confidence in using her voice in front of others. The activity also strengthened her organisation and planning skills, as she worked through each stage of the challenge from idea to delivery.
Most importantly, seeing the children enjoy her story gave Erin a strong sense of achievement and pride in her work. This boost in confidence and self-belief will continue to support her as she progresses in her learning journey.
Erin’s story highlights how creative, real-life challenges can help learners discover their strengths, build confidence and develop skills that will stay with them for life.
