Following the success of our first two special interest groups sessions this autumn, ASDAN is delighted to continue offering members new opportunities to connect, collaborate and explore key subjects together.
The first two sessions brought together educators to discuss themes in inclusive education and assessment. Our criminal justice system group focused on effective evidence collection and assessment, while our supporting learners with SEND group explored inclusive environments, communication approaches, and adaptive technologies.
The sessions generated thoughtful discussion, professional reflection and valuable sharing of approaches across the ASDAN network.
Participants in the groups praised the “encouraging and relaxed” facilitation and the opportunity to “learn from others in the network.” Many highlighted discovering new communication devices, tools such as Immersive Reader, and practical strategies to use with learners. Others valued the Padlet of shared ideas as a resource to continue collaboration beyond the session.
“It was fantastic to see how openly members shared their experiences and ideas,” said Melanie Baggaley, Senior Education Development Partner, who facilitated the second session. “The discussion showed the depth of expertise across our community and the collective commitment to improving outcomes for learners with SEND. The collaborative energy in the group was inspiring – everyone left with something new to try in their own setting.”
“It’s been wonderful to see members connecting so openly through the special interest groups,” added Kerrie King, Senior Education Development Partner. “These sessions create space for collaboration and shared problem-solving, helping educators find new ways to support their learners and strengthen practice across different settings. I’d really encourage members to join an upcoming group and be part of this growing community.”
