Meet the team – Kerrie King, lead for the personal effectiveness thematic pathway
At ASDAN, we're constantly evolving to meet the diverse needs of learners and educators. One of our most recent innovations is the introduction of thematic support for member guidance, structured by curriculum themes. This fresh approach enables our relationship management team to deliver specialist support in a faster and more efficient way.
Our thematic support is split into two pathways, each tailored to provide focused assistance within specific areas of learning: independent living and personal effectiveness. Leading the personal effectiveness pathway is Senior Relationship Manager, Kerrie King, whose expertise and passion for education make her an ideal fit for this pivotal role. We spoke to Kerrie to find out more about her journey with ASDAN and her vision for this new approach.
Passion and dedication
Kerrie’s connection to ASDAN began 15 years ago, when she first joined the organisation. Reflecting on her time with the organisation, she shared:
“I’ve had the privilege of working across many different roles here, from being a member of the centre support team, to managing moderation meetings and centre approvals, through to becoming a relationship manager. Each position has given me a deeper understanding of how we empower educators and learners. My work has always centred on building strong relationships and creating meaningful opportunities for learners to succeed.”
Her extensive experience and comprehensive understanding of the challenges educators face inform Kerrie’s approach to leading the personal effectiveness pathway. She is deeply committed to equipping learners and educators with the tools they need to thrive.
A perfect match
When asked what inspired her to take on the role of pathway lead, Kerrie explained:
“I’m passionate about equipping learners with the skills they need to navigate life successfully. Personal effectiveness isn’t just about academic outcomes – it’s about fostering self-confidence, adaptability and the ability to work effectively with others. These skills are crucial in today’s world.”
Kerrie’s ability to turn her passion into actionable strategies has already begun shaping the pathway. Her hands-on experience with schools and educators means she understands the importance of practical, real-world learning.
“I’ve always believed that education should be rooted in relevance. It isn’t just about ticking boxes – it’s about preparing learners to face challenges head-on and empowering them to reach their potential.”
Why personal effectiveness matters
Personal effectiveness focuses on developing transferable skills that students will carry with them long after they leave the classroom. These include communication, teamwork, problem-solving and resilience – skills that Kerrie describes as “the foundation for success in any area of life.”
In today’s fast-changing world, the ability to adapt and self-manage is more critical than ever. Kerrie elaborated:
“Young people are navigating a landscape that’s more complex and unpredictable than ever before. Employers are looking for individuals who can think critically, collaborate effectively and manage themselves in challenging situations.”
“We want to help learners understand their strengths and areas for improvement. It’s about giving them the tools to succeed on their terms. We want them to leave feeling confident, capable and ready to make their mark on the world.”
Accessible and tailored learning pathways
Highlighting the challenges faced by educators today, Kerrie noted:
“We are doing a lot of work to make our courses more approachable for educators and to save them time. The stress on teachers is immense, and having tools that ease their workload while engaging learners is vital. As a teacher, knowing you’ve engaged your learners and seeing them apply those skills later on is incredibly rewarding,”
When asked about the accessibility of ASDAN’s offer for new educators, Kerrie acknowledged the benefits of the new thematic pathways:
“Our relationship managers are always available to guide prospective members, and the new pathways make it easier for educators to identify the right fit for their needs. Ultimately, we have a strong focus on providing tailored support. Every setting is different, and our team is here to guide educators through the process. We’re committed to helping them and their learners succeed.”
Staying relevant in a changing world
One of ASDAN’s hallmarks is its commitment to staying ahead of the curve. The thematic pathways are designed with the future in mind, ensuring learners are equipped with the skills they need to meet evolving demands. Kerrie highlighted the importance of adaptability:
“The world doesn’t stand still and neither should education. We’re constantly reviewing and updating our programmes to reflect what learners and educators need. We’ve worked closely with educators and industry experts to ensure the pathway aligns with real-world expectations. It’s not just about teaching skills in isolation – it’s about showing learners how to apply them in meaningful ways.”
“Success looks different for everyone,” Kerrie emphasised. “Our job is to help learners define what success means to them and support them in getting there.”
A bright future
ASDAN’s thematic pathways represent a bold step forward in ASDAN’s continued dedication to personalised, skills-focused education. With Kerrie at the helm of the personal effectiveness pathway, learners can look forward to an enriching experience that equips them for the future. As Kerrie puts it:
“This isn’t just a job – it’s a chance to make a real difference in the lives of young people. That’s what motivates me every day.”
