To celebrate the festive period, ASDAN is delighted to release a new collection of free seasonal resources designed to support skills development in the final weeks of term.
Our Seasonal skills development pack brings together six inclusive and engaging activities that schools and settings can use throughout December to promote curiosity, reflection and creativity while keeping learners motivated at the end of a busy year.
Each activity is mapped to ASDAN’s core skills framework – learning, communicating, thinking, decision making, thinking, team working and self-awareness – ensuring that learners experience opportunities to develop personal effectiveness alongside taking part in enjoyable, purposeful tasks.
The pack includes accessible options for a wide range of ages and abilities, from sensory activities for learners with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) to creative, research-based challenges for secondary-age learners.
This year’s festive bundle features challenge activities based around:
- creative skills to encourage learning and practising a new art or craft activity
- inclusive communication, recognising and responding to different forms of interaction
- decision making and exploring what to wear for a range of seasonal situations
- using thinking skills to investigate how different religions celebrate important festivals
- community team working, supporting learners to make a positive difference in their local area
- self-awareness to help learners reflect on what makes a good day and strategies for managing more difficult ones
The activities in this pack are drawn from a range of ASDAN’s newly refreshed courses. This includes challenges from the Beliefs and Values, Citizenship and Expressive Arts Short Courses as featured on Equitas, ASDAN’s digital learning platform. The pack also features activities from our Transition Challenge and New Horizons programmes that offer accessible options for SEND learners across PMLD, MLD and SLD pathways.
