Short Courses
About this course
ASDAN Short Courses are flexible, portfolio-based programmes designed to accredit up to 60 hours of activity and skills development across a range of topics and curriculum areas.
They are widely used in formal and non-formal settings with learners aged 13 and over. While Short Courses are designed for learners working at Entry level 3 to Level 1, they can be adapted for those working above or below these levels. Each course focuses on completing challenges, developing skills and building confidence, independence and reflection. With more than 30 programmes available, members can choose titles that best meet the needs and interests of their learners.
Short Courses on Equitas
Our new digital learning platform, Equitas, is now live, designed to improve access, guidance and ease of delivery for both educators and learners. Equitas supports the full cycle of learning in a streamlined, secure and interactive environment.
Short Courses on Equitas have been updated and now fully integrate ASDAN’s six core skills:
- learning
- communicating
- decision making
- thinking
- team working
- self-awareness
These skills give learners practical tools to navigate learning, work and life. Embedded throughout the digital courses, they support structured planning, doing and reviewing, while enabling learners to record and evidence their skill development.

Using Short Courses in different formats
Please note that there are small differences between the challenge content in the Short Course student books and the updated versions on Equitas. For this reason, we recommend choosing one format per learner group. Challenge copies from Equitas can also be downloaded for use with learners.

Evaluation chart (individual)
This evaluation chart can be used by learners to evaluate a six-week individual activity. Learners are asked to mark on the graph each week to show what they did and how they felt; at the end of the project the learner should join up the marks to give a picture of the whole activity. This resource is particularly suited to challenges in Short Courses, Personal Development Programmes (Bronze, Silver, Gold), CoPE and Wider Key Skills.

Each member of the group should choose a different colour and mark on the graph each week to show what they did and how they felt. At the end of the project, each group member then joins up their marks to give a picture of the whole activity.
